I read an obituary recently for Al Noor Kassum, who passed away in 2021, and discovered he had written a book which I was excited to obtain and read. I was hired by Al Noor Kassum in the late 1980s when he was Tanzania’s Minister of Energy to come to Tanzania and work as an advisor to him and to TPDC, Tanzania’s National oil company.
Kassum was a very knowledgeable and very personable Minister, and a pleasure to work for. I spent memorable 2 years in Tanzania with my family, and unfortunately Kassum left as Minister during that time. I discovered from reading his story that he had a much broader and more impressive background and played a much bigger role in Tanzania’s independence than I had realized.
